There’s something going on here.
Today, across the nation, people are marching in numbers not seen since the Vietnam war. There are over 300 cities throughout the country hosting demonstrations.
But it’s not a mass protest to a war. It’s not about the tanking economy. This is about civil rights.
We are at a moment in 2008 that is very similar to the one we had in 1968. People are standing up and saying, “We’ve had enough of this shit.” They’re making a point and underscoring it with signs.
For the next few years, as we enjoy the beginning of the Obama administration, this will be the cultural battle. This is our fight. This is our cause. This is how our generation can change the country for the better.
The passage of Prop 8 isn’t a setback. It’s a fucking catalyst.
And it’s not about being gay or being straight. It’s about rights. And, thankfully, in this country, those who fight for their rights (to marry outside their race, to vote, to party) usually end up winning.
This is our Zeitgeist. This is what is going to define this generation. And even though I’m a straight man I have to say I’m fucking proud of what I’m seeing today.

… and a make-believe maverick. Please try to find the time to read this excellent Rolling Stone article, not to tell you how to vote, but to help you understand how deeply un-American the man is. If you can’t spare the time to learn about how many times McCain crashed navy planes and how many innocent sailors died while he drank cocktails in fancy Saigon villa, at least take 13 minutes to watch the following video about Fraudy McCain’s role in fleecing the taxpayers the first time around in the S&L fuckup.
Voters should know the facts about John McCain’s poor judgment — judgment that has twice placed him on the wrong side of history.
John McCain wants you to forget about his role in our country’s last major financial crisis and costly bailout: the savings and loan crisis of the late ’80s and early ’90s.
But voters deserve to know that the failed philosophy and culture of corruption that created the savings and loan crisis then are alive in the current crisis — and in John McCain’s plans for our economic future.
