All around us, dot-coms are failing, closing, or clinging on to dear life. Even before the dot-com explosion and implosion, though, there were plenty of personal sites, news sites, funny sites, etc. that were run as a hobby (or with hopes of making money someday) that faded away; never to be updated again, neither were they ever deleted.
For a number of years, there has been the Ghost Sites Museum, dedicated to preserving the memory of these dead or moribund sites for the future.

| I heartily recommend looking at the older issues as well. More of these sites still seem to be floating around in their long un-updated hideousness, and they're so poorly put together that they're kind of depressing.
Let us bow our heads in memory of these dead sites, and pause to think what over-hyping and terrible planning can do to anything, and anyone. Hopefully, we won't manage to do anything too stupid. |
