High gasoline prices are a big "water cooler" subject these days. Everyone is affected by the increased prices of petroleum products, even if - like my self - they don't drive. Working in the shipping industry, the cost of shipping has increased in the form of "Fuel Surcharges". A question recently on my mind has been: "How long will this energy resource last?"

| Yesterday, fark posted two stories on the subject of fossil fuels being a renewable resource. One article discusses the idea that our current thought and past information need to be reevaluated; that fossil fuels are a renewable source of energy. The second says "bollocks". Trying to find information on the projections of when exactly we will be out of fossil fuels turned out to be more difficult that it seemed. This page (at the bottom) offers some information, but I was trying to find something from the 70's that would seem a little more urgent like, "We're fucked! We're gonna run out by 2050! Bwaaaaaa!", and was out of luck. I was, however, able to find a State by State price list, and also, strangely enough, our current inventory. Things are not looking good, regardless, perhaps, of a couple of hundred years supply or not. Dammit. I really wanted a Firebird. |
